Support at Home

How do you arrange OT using your Support at Home funding?

Meaningful Activities provides occupational therapy for older people in Adelaide through Support at Home.

We begin with the person: what matters to them, what has changed, what still works well and what they would like to keep doing. The OT then looks at the activity, the home and the support already available.

What can the OT help with?

The work depends on the person's goals and the support approved through their Support at Home arrangement. It may include:

  • equipment assessment and prescription

  • home modification assessment

  • falls, home safety and everyday activity assessment

  • changes to routines or the way support is provided

  • follow-up to check whether a recommendation remains useful.

For example, the OT might look at getting in and out of the shower, preparing a meal after a hospital stay or choosing equipment that fits both the person and the bathroom.

How does the assessment work?

The OT asks about the person's priorities, strengths, routines, current support and what has become more difficult. They may observe a relevant activity, review existing information and check the space or equipment involved.

Home visits are often useful because the OT can see where the activity normally happens. Clinic or telehealth appointments may fit some questions.

A general initial assessment is usually 90 minutes. Other assessments are commonly 60 to 90 minutes. We confirm the appointment length, location and what to prepare before booking.

You may be asked to provide

  • examples of what has changed or become difficult
  • relevant reports or hospital discharge information
  • equipment already being used
  • registered Support at Home provider details.

The person can include someone they trust. They do not need to attempt an activity that feels unsafe just to show the OT.

How much does it cost?

Our current therapy rate is

$193.99

Initial assessment and travel

A standard 90-minute initial assessment in our core area is $291. The core area is approximately within 10 km of Prospect and includes routine travel.

The final price depends on the approved assessment, location, travel and follow-up work. Before work begins, the payment arrangement must be confirmed.

Funding and contributions

Approved occupational therapy is a clinical support under Support at Home. It uses the person's approved funding, but there is no participant contribution for the approved clinical OT service. Equipment and building work have separate funding and contribution rules.

How the arrangement works

01

If your registered provider manages the service

The registered provider approves the work, confirms the final price and pays Meaningful Activities from the person's Support at Home funding.

02

If you self-manage part of your services

You may have more involvement in choosing and arranging the clinician. Your registered provider still confirms how the work will be authorised and paid from your Support at Home budget.

How to get started

1
Tell us what help is needed

Describe the activity, what has changed, the support currently used, the person's suburb and what they would like to make more manageable.

2
We confirm the arrangement

We check service fit and availability. The person, their registered provider and our team confirm the approved work, funding, price and documents needed.

3
We arrange the first appointment

Once the arrangement is confirmed, we book the assessment and explain what to prepare.

If the person has not been assessed for government-funded aged care, contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422.
